What does "OIT vs. AMT" mean? (Out of India vs. Aryan Migration Theory)

OIT vs. AMT compares the empirical models of the Out of India Theory (OIT) and the Aryan Migration Theory (AMT / Steppe Hypothesis):

  • OIT (Out of India Theory): Proposes that the Indo-European language family originated within the Indian subcontinent and subsequently expanded westward across Eurasia.
  • AMT (Aryan Migration Theory): Represents the linguistic and archaeogenetic consensus model, positing that Indo-Iranian speakers migrated into northwestern South Asia from the Eurasian steppe via Central Asia during the 2nd millennium BCE.
What does "IVC" stand for? (Indus Valley Culture / Harappan Civilization)

IVC (Indus Valley Culture / Civilization) refers to the Bronze Age Indus Civilization (c. 3300–1300 BCE) spanning northwestern South Asia (e.g. Harappa, Mohenjo-daro, Dholavira, Rakhigarhi, Lothal):

  • Focus of Monthly Reports: Continuous synthesis of emerging archaeological excavations, radiocarbon chronologies, ancient DNA (aDNA) samplings, paleoclimatic data (sediment cores, monsoon dynamics), as well as studies on trade networks, urbanism, and deurbanization.
  • Abbreviation: Across articles and metadata, the standard scholarly abbreviation IVC is uniformly used.

Monthly research report on new excavations in Mohenjo-Daro (Kot Diji city wall), aDNA pipelines from Rakhigarhi, computational decipherment of the Indus script, and paleoclimate megadroughts.

    • Mohenjo-Daro Redating: 7-meter-thick rampart structure identified as monumental city fortification of the Kot Diji phase (ca. 3300–2600 BCE).
    • Rakhigarhi Mound 7: AnSI and BSIP initiate aDNA, strontium, and oxygen isotope analyses on newly recovered skeletons.
    • Paleoclimate & De-Urbanization: 113-year megadrought in the 2nd millennium BCE accelerated an orderly eastward settlement shift.
